The iconic writer and director John Singleton was laid to rest Monday in a private funeral. The 51-year-old director and writer died at age 51 after being pulled from life support following a massive stroke.

The ceremony for the Boyz N the Hood director was attended by Tyrese Gibson, who worked with him on 2003’s 2 Fast 2 Furious, Nia Long, who starred in Boyz, Tina Knowles and her husband Richard Lawson, U.S. Representative Maxine Waters, Ice Cube and Ludacris. Bret Ratner, F. Gary Grey, Ryan Coogler and Morris Chestnut were also in attendance. Tyrese, Ice Cube, Taraji P. Henson and Stevie Wonder were among those who paid respects to Singleton during his “Celebration of Life.”

A larger memorial will be held in the coming weeks. He was reportedly buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in L.A., close to Nipsey Hussle.
