A hand drawn birthday card from John Lennon to George Harrison's then-wife Pattie Boyd is expected to sell at auction for over $30,000, according to The Express. Stephen Maycock, from London auctioneers Bonhams shed light on the item: “John Lennon (and wife Cynthia) gave this to Pattie Boyd on her (24th) birthday on March 17th, 1968 when they were in India. The Beatles were there in February and March. We know that Lennon did at least two cards because another one he made for Mike Love of the Beach Boys who was also there, previously sold at auction in the 1980's. There is a strong market for any drawings by John Lennon. He was quite a prolific doodler and sketcher but this is a little more personal.”
The card features five naked figures sitting in a circle with the inscription: “Happy Birthday Pattie from John and Cyn” — with the “J” and “C” written backwards. The card is being sold on July 18th “with a letter of provenance from Boyd” confirming its authenticity.
Pattie Boyd met John Lennon in 1964 on the set of A Hard Day's Night, and throughout her years married to George Harrison, she spent more time with Lennon then she did with her own family: “I adored John. I thought he was tremendous fun to be with. He was exciting — but also sometimes he'd make me quite nervous because he was very witty, very sharp. He wouldn't let anything go. He was very observant.”
