Bruce Springsteen has tapped the E Street Band's May 23rd, 1988 Madison Square Garden show as the latest release in his ongoing live archival series. The new Madison Square Garden 1988 collection chronicles the final North American date of the international trek, and marks the third show in the archive series from Springsteen's scene-changing “Tunnel Of Love Express” tour, which proved to be his last with the E Street Band for over a decade.

In 2017, “The Boss” released his legendary July 3rd, 1988 Stockholm stadium show as Stockholms Stadion, Sweden 1988 — and back in 2015, Springsteen issued the band's April 23rd, 1988 concert as Los Angeles Sports Arena, Los Angeles, CA.

Highlights on the new set include the '88 tour signatures “Be True,” “Seeds,” “Part Man, Part Monkey” and “Light Of Day,” along with covers of Steppenwolf's “Born To Be Wild,” John Lee Hooker’s “Boom Boom,” the Sonics’ “Have Love, Will Travel,” Woody Guthrie’s “Vigilante Man,” Edwin Starr’s “War,” Jackie Wilson’s “Lonely Teardrops” — along with a soundtrack bonus cover of Ed Townshend's “For Your Love.”

Back in 1999 when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Bruce Springsteen singled out every member — past and present — of the E Street Band for special commendation — including his wife, Patti Scialfa, who played a particularly important role on the “Tunnel Of Love Express” tour: “Uh. . . Patti Scialfa… She busted the boys club (laughs), big time. It went like this, ‘Okay, fellas. . . There´s gonna be a woman in the band. We need someone to sing all of the high parts. How complicated can it get?’ (Laughter, applause) Well, a nice paparazzi photo of me in my jockey shorts on a balcony in Rome. . . 10 of the best years of my life. . . Evan, Jesse, Sam — three children genealogically linked to the E Street Band tell the rest of the story (applause). Everybody wants to know how I feel about the band. . . Hell, I married one of 'em! Thank you baby. You hit all the high notes. You’re ‘Tougher Than The Rest.’”
