Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready has told Rolling Stone in a new interview that the band is in the process of recording its 11th studio album and first since 2013's Lightning Bolt.
Reminded that it's been almost seven years since the band last issued a new LP, McCready responded, "Has it been that long? Oh my gosh. We’ve been busy toiling in the studio on and off for seven years. We’re working at our own pace, and doing some music right now, and it’s cool and different and I’m excited about it. But we’re not finished with anything yet. So I wish I had an answer for you, but know that we are recording right now. We’re excited to be playing together again."
McCready told us not long ago that the band never formally plans out a new LP: ["When you sit down to write a record, it's not — we kind of never go, 'This is what our thoughts are on what it should be.' The recording process itself and the songs will tell you as it goes on what it is, so we don't know exactly what we have when we first start out."] SOUNDCUE (:12 OC: . . . first start out.)
Pearl Jam released a track in March 2018 called "Can't Deny Me" that was said to be from the upcoming album, although whether the track will remain on the final product remains to be seen.
As for touring, McCready said, "Nothing as of yet. I mean, I hope we can go out. I’m ready to play some music again with my guys and go out and do it. But we don’t have any plans as of yet."
Pearl Jam played a handful of baseball stadium dates in 2018 and a couple of hometown Seattle shows, but has not toured extensively for a few years.
