Steven Van Zandt is set to be honored on November 23rd at Manhattan's Hard Rock Cafe during the First Annual Rock and Roll Forever Foundation Gala. reported Van Zandt, who'll be saluted for his commitment to arts education by founding TeachRock, “which provides a free, interdisciplinary, arts-driven curriculum for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The TeachRock lesson plans are used by more than 20,000 registered teachers in all 50 states, including his (hometown of) Middletown, New Jersey.”

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy will present Van Zandt with the award, and old friends and former bandmates Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes will perform, with Drew Carey acting as the evening's host.

Steve Van Zandt has always felt that rock bonded both musicians and their audience in a way unlike any other form of art: “A band communicates something different than an individual. To this day, rock n' roll is all about bands and pop music is all about individuals. Y'know, I'm not makin' an evaluation on either one; but bands communicate family, friendship — community, y'know? That's what attracted me.”
