Jim Lampl, owner of WSRQ-FM 106.9 has announced an agreement to sell the Sarasota radio station to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). The sale is pending subject to regulatory approval from the Federal Communications Commission.
WSRQ owner, Lampl, a western Pennsylvania native who is familiar with the college’s main campus in Erie, Pa., said, “LECOM is well established in western Pennsylvania and southwest Florida, and will be a great radio operator for the Sarasota – Bradenton market.”
LECOM has had a presence in southwest Florida since the 2004 opening of LECOM Bradenton. Starting as a branch campus of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, LECOM Bradenton has grown to include the School of Pharmacy and School of Dental Medicine. Many Gulf Coast residents will recognize LECOM Park, the new name for the home for Pittsburgh Pirates spring training games.
This will be LECOM’s second radio station featuring Music of the 60s, 70s and 80s format. The college recently acquired Erie radio station WMCE-FM 88.5, known as LECOM Radio. According to LECOM Radio General Manager Jim Schaffner, WSRQ-FM will continue to play the hits and audience favorites from those three decades.
